Introduction

Allow me to introduce (or re-introduce) myself: I’m Dawn Spencer Hurwitz and I’m a painter, jewelry maker, and olfactory artist working in Boulder, CO.
I’ve been drawing and painting all my life but became serious about art in high school. I went to Art School at the College of Fine Arts at Boston University where I was classically trained, studying the figure, anatomy, color theory, design, and technique. I’ve been engaged in my painting journey ever since.
(art school painting: Night Vision)
I began showing in the early ’90’s in Boston, but then started an olfactory art and perfume business which brought me to Boulder and took most of my time for many years until I couldn’t ignore visual art any longer. By then, I had developed ways to integrate both visual and olfactory art (multi-sensory art) and my path to re-emerge opened up.

As a lover of saturated color, I’ve always been attracted to gemstones for their incredible ‘fire’ and how they interact with light. In 2009, I began working with metal wire and beads to create some of my first art jewelry pieces. I wanted to make ‘little paintings’ out of gemstones framed in gold and silver that you can wear. These assemblage pieces are all one of a kind.

I’m excited to share my on going journey with you and I hope that my work will inspire and bring beauty to your world.
